Coping When You Have Severe Nut Allergies Having allergic reactions is certainly not an enjoyable thing but if you have severe reactions, it can be more than just a simple inconvenience. I know plenty of people that have food allergies and some of them have to be so careful that they tend to avoid eating out except on very special occasions. When they do eat out, they have all of the products and supplies that they need just in case they have a severe reaction that they are unable to overcome. This is especially the case for friends of mine who have extremely severe nut allergies. Here is how they tend to cope with things so that they are able to live life as normally as possible. The first thing that is important for those that have nut allergies is that they are as informed on the subject as possible. It is not enough for these individuals to simply avoid eating nuts directly, they also need to avoid eating anything that may have been cross contaminated. These not only come from the factory where perhaps something that is manufactured is also made in a factory which handles these types of nuts. It is also the case in our local area, where cross-contamination can occur in our local deli or even our ice cream shops. You need to make sure that you're thinking about this constantly because you would be surprised with how little contact it takes in order to produce a severe reaction. Another thing that is necessary is for everybody that is involved in your life to be aware of the fact that you have nut allergies as well. This is not only the case of those who are going to be preparing your food but it is also the case of anybody that you tend to be around regularly. Let them know that it is not a simple matter of you having a slight allergy but that if you come in contact with nuts in any form, it could mean your very life. If somebody is not willing to at least take you into consideration, they aren't somebody that has your best interest in mind. Of course, it also helps if you carry the proper medication in order to overcome any allergic reactions that you may have. Always have antihistamine with you and if your doctor prescribes one, carry an autoinjector. These things may save your life in case of a reaction, make sure that you always have them.
